Have you reached the age where “what do you want to be when you grow up?” has been replaced by “what do you want to do when you retire?” If you’re like most, the answer is “I don’t know.”

Hi, I’m Arlene Taveroff. I have had fun living through a number of major lifestyle and career changes over the years, many going totally against the norms of the time, others just plain wacky.  I’ve gone from a left-brained nutrition science career to right-brained photography, writing, and art. I had a cooking show on TV before they were the rage, and started competitive ballroom dancing at the age of 61 after never having done anything athletic ever before in my life.

while experimenting with new forms of dance and new styles of art. Oh, and I’ve just started playing the piano! My mission is to obliterate the traditional going-out-to-pasture concept of retirement and show you how to turn it into a designer life that’s colorful, multi-faceted, passionate, and purposeful.

Retirement is not a downward slope: it’s more like a video game,  where you have the magical power to alter the direction of the path ahead. Create a new world. But note: retirement is also not about trying to act like a teenager again; it’s about the freedom to abandon limiting beliefs that no longer serve you. To develop those hobbies that you’ve never had time before. To create new goals that have meaning to YOU, and to share all that wisdom you’ve accumulated over the years!.

As the philosopher, Hillel once said, “If I’m not for others, who am I? if I’m not for myself, who will be? And if not now, when?”
